I remember when…

I remember when…

I could leave bread on the counter (in a bag) and not have to sweep it up in the morning. (Pumpkin=guilty) I now use the microwave as a breadbox.

I was allowed to use the bathroom in peace. Nowadays, Pixie considers it a perfect place to demand my undivided attention… not like I have anything better to do than pet the cat, right? I’m not sure how I ever managed to take care of myself on the toilet previously, without a cat on my shoulder.

Speaking of which, I remember when cats stayed on the ground. I’ve heard of shoulder riding cats, I’ve seen photos… but I didn’t really believe in them. I do now. Thank goodness our (my) parrot-cat is Miss Pixie full of grace, not Pumpkin the destructo-cat, or Ninja the filet’er of flesh.

I remember when I didn’t have to check the appliances before using them.

I remember when I could wash the dishes on my own. These days it’s one of the cats favorite supervisory roles. Pixie also likes to pop the soap bubbles, and Ninja still steals my sponge and dish clothes. They get wet, especially when I have to use wet hands to remove them from where they aren’t supposed to be (the drainer!), but it doesn’t stop them.

Getting wet doesn’t keep them out of the shower either. They don’t actually get in the tub, but there’s a large window sill that lets them get practically nose-to-nose with us while we’re trying to wash our hair.

I remember when I didn’t have help to get those annoying spills on the lower part of the cabinet.

.. and remember how good the the last french fries out of the bag always were. You know, whoever divvies up the goods, gets the bag fries? Not anymore…

but I also remember a time without cats in our lives… it was not as cute, somewhat sad, and definitely more boring.

and just because this post made me think of it: (not tonsils .. at least that’s what my preview shows :D but the song…)

Ah, yes...the good ol' days *sigh* But then change is not always a bad thing, especially when your life is better for it.

Raising these kittens has reminded me of the changes we made when our kids were born.. we had to adjust, but it was all worth it!! :) It's been fun to watch the kids adjust to being cat parents too. Our former cats were grown when they were born so the cats adapted to them. This is a new, and good, experience for them.

This song is before my time too, but I love it anyway, and the video explained a few things I didn't understand (pitching woo?). The cats do keep us entertained... everything is more interesting with feline 'help'.

Oh yes, pegging the jeans and Harrison Ford's white tux. Yeah. What about Black Jack gum? I love the Statler Bros.

Just left a comment telling you how insanely cute your kitties are - and that I especially loved the picture in the microwave - and then something funky happened and I don't know if Blogger got my comment - so I'm being annoying and I'm leaving you another one, LOL!

Great pictures! I LOVE your kitties. They sound like toddlers!

Lydia - I generally do not like modern country music, at all, but when it comes to old country/folk/bluegrass/gospel... love that stuff! I think this Statler Bros. flashback is brought to you today by my recent hankering to re-watch O Brother Wherefore Art Thou. I better dig out the DVD and watch it before I start finding ways to connect Tennessee Ernie Ford to a review of our favorite grill or something!

Daring Adventure - the cats are like toddlers! Or perhaps 3yos... more independent than toddlers, but still attached and learning furiously, like the littlest ones! I was in the middle of washing the microwave when Pumpkin invited/pushed himself in... he was actually sitting in soapy water, but he was 'helping' not bathing, so he didn't care about the wet and was hard to remove from the oven so I could finish my work! As you can imagine, I do a lot of washing and re-washing of counters and things! Goofers :D (oh - and I didn't see an extra post, blogger must have ate it).

OMG this made me crack up!!! And I thought having ONE new cat was a wild ride. Great photos, too!!! LOL.

I've never had one cat... we tried, but Misty NEEDED a companion (he'd clear out bookshelves, unplug appliances, unhook the phone, climb curtains, etc.) We got him a brother, Ramses. Those two cats were great company (for us and themselves) and highly entertaining (we miss them!). We intended on only keeping two of the litter, but this bunch was a set, and they are proving to be great galloping herds of non-stop action and fun (except when they are sleepy or being snuggley).

Connie,
Thanks for your sweet comments. You are so nice. I enjoy your blog and your cyber-friendship. Is that a word? Your kids and kitties are so cute. And they have the same coloring!! You can tell they are all related. haha :-)

I'm glad we found each other and enjoy your blog too. I really wish that I'd started to blog about our career and moving earlier like you are... at least I wish I'd kept notes to pass on to the kids when they grow up! Yea... we have a matching set of ginger kitties, def. can tell they are sibs, but they have such distinct personalities and voices. Kids are a tad ginger too...(I have a photo of Pumpkin wrapped around Honor's ahead and he nearly blends in with her hair) although as they get older, they're losing more of their reddish hair color (going blond-brown) and looking less like each other, but they are a set too ;D (why not? I need all the help I can get to keep track sometimes... ;p )

I am a big fan of pets and am glad your human family is enjoying their kitty children. :) The little, furry hearts of our pets just worm their way into our big, human ones! And make all our lives better.

I'm laughing right now about using the microwave as a bread box. We did the same thing in Israel for the 3 years we were there. Here... we sadly have to put it in the fridge - or we'll get REALLY bad bugs.

Jill, I'm from Florida, and yea.. the bread went in the fridge.. didn't matter how clean you kept your home, there are BUGS! I know it's a luxury to be in a place where you can leave food out... bread is best warm or room temp! I just have to watch the cats, they are too smart and are working on figuring out doors!
