I can’t believe that I forgot to post these earlier, but I just have to share Honor’s bug friends. Honor found these guys in grandpa’s garden (in California) while we were on R&R. I guess that she really missed her baby bird after we delivered it to the wildlife rehabilitation place, and so she had to adopt new friends to fill the gap.
Big, green creepy friends.
She taught them tricks
I think the guy on the left was a better student.
Good behavior earned them great treats
They also got baths and naps. Spoiled rotten worms!
Honor also found another buddy to care for…
I guess it reminded her of her baby bird.
It may have actually been bigger than the baby bird… let’s see… baby bird…
moth…
I think the moth was bigger!

Okay, those bugs are so cool! The kiddos in my classes would love them! Any idea what kind they are?
What a caring young lady! Aren't summers just the best when you get to be with nature in ways you never even dreamed of?!
I think the big worms are tomato hornworms... yep, they are, here is a great wiki page on them. The moth is the same bug! Five Spotted Hawkmoth. Here's the wiki page.
Honor is a caring girl! :) She absolutely loves any and all creatures. It's a beautiful trait! I do like when they get to be a part of nature... so often we have to say 'Don't touch' for very good reason (protect the kid, protect nature) so it's nice when they can interact.
btw - Bethany, speaking of nature and caring for it, we were able to visit a wildlife rehab place where Honor brought her rescued bird to be cared for and released. I blogged about our visit here LINK and their own site is here LINK
Those are some serious critters. You are much braver that I!
Brooke - I did my best to not touch them ;D .. although I did have to get the moth out of her hair a couple of times.
