Up close

Honor, Miss Junior Photographer of the household, loves playing with the camera. I can’t even imagine being allowed to run wild with my dad’s good camera when I was a kid, but cameras are much more user friendly than they once were, and it doesn’t cost as much when you take digital photos vs. film. This is a hobby I am happy to allow our little 7yo explore. We’re not training her… how? I’m not trained! But she practices, and lately has been interested in close-up shots of the cats. I think she got some good ones!

Here’s Pixie…

I love this shot! Such sweet pink toes and nose, and the sun is so soft on her fur.

And Ninja, with her very orange-red markings…

Too bad this one turned out blurry. This is a perfect example of why I’ve learned to be a great one-handed typist.

This one is not a close up, but it is about closeness.

I think Honor does a great job with her photos!

I think she is an awesome photographer! She should take film in school when she gets older.. I bet that would really set off some sparks!

We have a simple Sony Cybershot. It's a good 'point and shoot' pocket camera/video camera, with user friendly settings. Ours is a few years old now, but that it has held up so well says something for the brand (we drop it, kids drop it, it's been hauled around in pockets on boats, on horseback in the desert, etc). This is the model DSC-W170.

SeeThroughGreen - she has a good eye for a cute photo, and I don't usually think to go for the angles that she does. These aren't cropped or photoshop'ed in any way!

We were just discussing the evolution of cameras the other day. I, too, was never allowed to used the family camera and never really had an interest in photography until I got here in NZ. Now we all have our own cameras and it's interesting to see how we have completely different perspectives of the same subject. The best part is--you can simply delete the bad shots.
Looks like she's very creative!

'Just delete the bad shots' is a learned behavior. When my husband uses the camera, he will stop, check the photo, delete the bad ones, take one more... he misses so much and hardly takes any photos! I know he knows we have the space on the camera, but it seems he just can't let go of the need to be perfect and save the 'film'. I used to do the same, but I play with the camera much more than he does, and have taught myself to simply click away and sort/delete on the computer later. Honor never had that problem - she just snaps away (although she knows how to sort and delete on the camera too)! If I know I'll be out taking a lot of photos, I'll stick an extra battery AND storage card in the case.

Wow, she does an awesome job!! Photographer in the making. I'd say encourage her and see where it goes. Cute kitties too :)

Nicole - the cats are her favorite subject, but she also photographs objects in and around the house. She takes care of the camera as if it were hers, because in her mind, anything that is mine, IS hers ;D
